Whether you are coming from Kentucky, Illinois, Ohio, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, or beyond, there are are a lot of reasons to pursue help through couples counseling. Some of the most common reasons gay and lesbian couples find their way to me are:
To get it right this time - to build on what is already good
Pre-marital counseling for couples
Difficulty communicating
Emotional Infidelity or an affair
Constant conflict, fighting, and tension
Feeling Disconnected, passionless
Questioning feelings, "I don't know if I love her anymore"
Stopped having sex, not enough intimacy
Lost that "lovin' feeling"
Changing life goals "I want kids, he doesn't"
Blended families (dealing with children and ex's)
Feeling controlled, powerless
Depression, anxiety, anger, and trust issues in the relationships
Power struggles around finances, household chores, pet care, child care
Gay and lesbian couples deserve excellent care and attention for their relationship.
Couples counseling is a counseling specialty in itself, but gay and lesbian couples counseling is a specialty within a specialty. Most therapists are not adequately trained to address your relationship concerns. Be sure you put your relationship in skilled hands.
A bad therapy experience can change the course of your relationship. A great therapy experience can also change the course of your relationship - for the better!
